If you look at just the thumbnail, or even the not zoomed-in version, it's easy to not notice the tears. But when you take a good look, you see them and you realize that Matty isn't all he appears to be. I know I'm probably reading into this too much, but I just thought that it was interesting and thought you might like to hear my oppinion.^-^

What you say is very interesting. Actually, I think the same of Matt. It seems to me that Matt always tries to hide behind those googles so it is difficult to know what´s going through his mind. When I first read the manga I wanted to know him a little more by looking at his eyes or at his mouth (traits that I look a lot in characters when I want to analyze them)but I realized that he was all covered most of the time.
I think Matt is good at hidding his emotions.

One of my favorite Matty charactizations is the kid who's in tune with others' emotions very well, but does not express his. He hides them, unlike Near and L, who suppress them. And Mello...well...^_- All his panels in the manga had his eyes and often his mouth covered, it's true. The two most expressive parts of the face. It's probably not a coincidence either. He's such an interesting character to analyze...

Probablemente está triste por alguna razón vinculada a Mello. No lo sé, no pensé en eso cuando lo dibujé. De hecho, tenía planeado dibujar a Matt sonriendo, pero salió todo lo contrario, haha.
A mi siempre me pone muy sentimental ver a mis personajes favoritos pasando un mal rato, pero también tengo un gusto bastante malsano al verlos así.
